MANTRA NEDİR?

“Bhagavad-gita As İt İs” de ki terimler sozlugunde Uluslararasi Krsna Bilinci Toplulugu Kurucu-Acaryasi İlahi Lutuf A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada tarafindan verilen tanim: Askin bir ses ya da Vedik ilahi. Ve ayni yazar tarafindan cevrilen Srimad Bhagavatam’da ki terimler sozlugu mantrayi: Akli yanilsamadan kurtarabilecek ses titresimi olarak tanimlar.

Derken parampara ya da gurular zincirindeki manevi öğretmenden alındığı için kurtuluşun büyük zikri olan maha-mantra var.Lakin eğitimimiz için biz mantraların eski ya da “Vedik” zamanlarda savas araçlari olarak kullanımını konuşacağız.

Srimad-Bhagavatam 1-7-20 de soyle ifade edilir: (Kuruksetra savas alaninda ki Asvatthama’nın) hayatı tehlikede olduğu icin suya kutsallıkla dokundu ve nükleer silahlar atmak için nasıl geri çekeceğini bilmediği halde ilahilerin zikri üzerine yoğunlaştı.

Srila Prabhupada’nın bu dizeye için açıklamasi aşağıdaki gibidir;

“Maddi faaliyetlerin ince şekilleri maddi idarenin inceliksiz metodlarından daha iyidir. Maddi faaliyetlerin bu gibi ince şekilleri sesin arındırıcılığından etkilenir. Aynı metod burada nükleer silahlar olarak iş görecek ilahilerin zikredilmesiyle benimsenmistir.”

İlahi Lütfun bir başka heyecan verici açıklamasında, Srimad Bhagavatam 1-7-27 de belirttiği:

“Brahmastra, atom enerjisi tarafindan idare edilen modern nukleer silaha benzer. Atom enerjisi tümüyle tümden yanma üzerine çalışır ve brahmastra da öyle iş görür. Atomik radyasyona benzer dayanılmaz bir ısı yaratır, lakin fark şudur ki atom bombası inceliksiz bir nükleer silah tipiyken brahmastra ilahilerin zikredilmesiyle üretilen ince bir silah tipidir.

İlahilerin zikredilmesin ince bilimi de maddidir fakat henüz modern maddi bilim adamları tarafından bilinmez.”

Bunu da söylemiş olarak ilerleyelim.

“Mantralarin Gücü” nün de dahil olduğu bir çok kitap yazmıs olan Thomas Ashley Farrand der ki,

“Onlar müthiştir. Onlar çok eski zamanlardan kalmadır. Çalışırlar. “Mantra” kelimesi iki Sanskritçe kelimeden türer. Birincisi “man” hecesini veren “manas” ya da “akıl”. İkinci hece “korumak” ya da “özgür etmek” anlamına gelen Sanskritçe “trai” kelimesinden çekimlenir. Bu nedenle, kelimesi kelimesine anlamıyla mantra sözcüğü “aklı özgür etmek” demektir. Mantra özünde, er geç kişiyi aklın saçma isteklerinden kurtaracak akıl tarafından kullanılan bir araçtır.Buna ilaveten şöyle ifade eder:

“Mantralar hem belli bir ruhsal enerji frekansına hem de başlangıç formunda bir bilinç haline benzeyen güçlü bir titreşim başlatır. Zaman geçtikce mantra işlemi, sonunda mantra tarafından emilen tüm diğer daha küçük titreşimleri geçersiz kılmaya başlar . Bireyden bireye değisen bir zaman süresi sonrasında, mantranın büyük dalgası tüm diğer titreşimleri susturur. Sonunda mantra icinde barındırdığı ve mantra tarafından temsil edilen enerji ve ruhsal durumla tümüyle uyum içerisinde bir hızda organizmanin titreştiği bir hal yaratır.”

WHAT İS A MANTRA?

The definition given in the glossary of the “Bhagavad-gita As İt İs” by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the Founder-acarya of the İnternational Society for Krishna Consciousness is: A transcendental sound or Vedic hymn. And in the Srimad-Bhagavatam translated by the same author, that glossary defines mantra as: A sound vibration that can deliver the mind from illusion.

Then there is the maha-mantra which is the great chant for deliverance as recieved from a spiritual master in the parampara or disciplic succession. But for our edification we will address the use of mantras in ancient or “Vedic” times as weapons of war.

İn the Srimad-Bhagavatam 1-7-20 it states: Since his life was in danger, (Asvatthama on the battlefield of Kuruksetra) he touched water in sanctity and concentrated upon the chanting of the hymns for throwing nuclear weapons, although he did not know how to withdraw such weapons.

Srila Prabhupada’s purport to that verse is as follows:

“The subtle forms of material activities are finer than grosser methods of material manipulation. Such subtle forms of material activities are effected through purification of sound. The same method is adopted here by chanting hymns to act as nuclear weapons.”
İn another exciting purport by His Divine Grace, in SB. 1-7-27 he states:

“The brahmastra is similar to the modern nuclear weapon manipulated by atomic energy. The atomic energy works wholly on total combustibility, and so the brahmastra also acts. İt creates an intolerable heat similar to atomic radiation, but the difference is that the atomic bomb is a gross type of nuclear weapon, whereas the brahmastra is a subtle type of weapon produced by chanting hymns. The subtle science of chanting hymns is also material, but it has yet to be known by the modern material scientists.”

Having said this, let us proceed.

Thomas Ashley Farrand who has written many books including “The Power of Mantras” says,
“They are formidable. They are ancient. They work. The word “mantra” is derived from two Sanskrit words. The first is “manas” or “mind,” which provides the “man” syllable. The second syllable is drawn from the Sanskrit word “trai” meaning to “protect” or to “free from.” Therefore, the word mantra in its most literal sense means “to free from the mind.” Mantra is, at its core, a tool used by the mind which eventually frees one from the vagaries of the mind.” He further states:

“Mantras start a powerful vibration which corresponds to both a specific spiritual energy frequency and a state of consciousness in seed form. Over time, the mantra process begins to override all of the other smaller vibrations, which eventually become absorbed by the mantra. After a length of time which varies from individual to individual, the great wave of the mantra stills all other vibrations. Ultimately, the mantra produces a state where the organism vibrates at the rate completely in tune with the energy and spiritual state represented by and contained within the mantra.”
